As a PMM coach, I talk a lot about prioritization, staying focused, and “how to say no.”
But, sometimes you’ll want to say YES ✅
A request from sales may not be on your priority list.
It may not be tied to one of your OKRs.
It may not have a clear business impact.
Or be applicable to a lot of people.
But you still might want to do it.
After all, there’s always room for compromise.
Only a Sith deals in absolutes.
The important thing is to know WHY.
Why it makes sense for you to take it on.
Here are some reasons you may want to say yes:
👍 It’s an opportunity to learn
👍 It’s work that interests you
👍 You get to work with interesting people
👍 You want to strengthen a key relationship
👍 You’re new to the org and want to build credibility
👍 You want to return a favor
👍 It’s a nagging problem everyone feels (and fixing it will earn major brownie points)
This is real life.
The reality is that it’s always going to be a judgement call.
You just want to be clear on your reasons for saying YES or NO.
