Here are 7 of my (least) favourite #PMM productivity killers.
And how to avoid them.
👇
INDECISION
---
🛑 We tend to over-analyze pretty much everything. Messaging, email copy, the layout of a slide — the list goes on. Analysis paralysis is real and it's a huge time thief.
🟢 Make decisions, ship things, and focus on gathering feedback and iterating.
SHARING PROJECTS TOO LATE
---
🛑 It’s easy to hide away working on projects in a vacuum, only to realize you completely missed the mark. If you only shared your work earlier, you could have saved hours or even days.
🟢 Share what you're working on early and often. In meetings, over Slack, even on LinkedIn.
ALWAYS STARTING FROM SCRATCH
---
🛑 Avoid starting every project with a blank page. Building a project plan, gathering the right documents, recalling past examples and inspiration. These things all take time.
🟢 Build your own toolkit of templates, frameworks, and examples that allow you to hit the ground running on every project.
A SCATTERED WORKSPACE
---
🛑 A cluttered workspace = a cluttered mind. When your docs, project plans and notes are spread all over the place, you're more prone to distractions.
🟢 Organize your work so things are easy to find. Oh, and while you’re at it, clean your desktop and inbox.
CONSTANTLY SWITCHING CONTEXT
---
🛑 Multitasking sounds great, but when your brain is constantly switching gears between tasks, you’re less efficient and more likely to make mistakes.
🟢 Avoid trying to do a million things at once. Be clear on your priorities and aim to block off ~3 hours each day to work on your most important project.
NOT PLANNING YOUR WEEK
---
🛑 When you don't start your week with clear priorities and a plan to tackle them, it's easy to find yourself reacting to things as they come and accomplishing nothing.
🟢 Take an hour over the weekend to clean up your workspace, reschedule incomplete projects and plan your week ahead.
SAYING YES TO EVERYTHING
---
🛑 You're likely fielding requests from every department in your company. You can't say yes to everything and expect to get your work done.
🟢 Be clear on your priorities and learn how to say NO. Build a process for managing and responding to internal requests. Make it easy for people to see what you're working on and why you can't drop everything for their request.
So there it is — 7 things that are likely stealing your time and how to avoid them.
