Many people assume Interactive Demos are only for Sales Led companies.

I got an early preview of their 2024 report, coming in Jan.
They analyzed over 18,000 demos built on their platform.
Here’s one stat that stood out to me…
Their top 1% of customers were an even split (50/50) between PLG and Sales Led.
Why should that not be surprising?
The infographic below is from OpenView’s 2022 Product Benchmark Report.
For every 1000 visitors to a PLG website, only 60 (6%) try your free plan. Only 40 (4%) try your free trial.
Over 90% of visitors are not willing to sign up for your product even though it’s FREE.
Of course, many of those:
❌ Are not your ideal customer
❌ Are not ready to buy
❌ Don’t actually have a problem you can solve
But I have to think that many are just not willing to invest the time in signing up for your product.
They don’t want to:
❌ Give you their email
❌ Spend time setting it up
❌ Spend time setting it up
And we haven’t even talked about activation rates.
According to the OpenView 2022 Product Benchmarks Survey, standout PLG companies see an average activation rate of 20%.
That means even after signing up for your free product, 80% of users aren’t able to reach the point where they see the value you promised.
That’s why interactive demos are a big deal for PLG companies too.
They give customers a way to quickly understand the product, get behind the wheel, and ideally experience that aha moment before they have to invest time in signing up.
When they do, the are more motivated to actually use it.
That’s why you hear stories like Trainual seeing a 450% lift in free trial signups, a +100% lift in activated trials seven days after signup, and a +175% lift in users converting to paid.
