The Shop team is looking for a Senior Product Manager to own Shop Minis, a new and exciting consumer-focused product. Wondering if this is the right fit? Senior Product Lead Kees Oomen shares his experience and some Shop insights. "I decided to join the team because Shopify is a growing company therefore priority was placed on investment in people and expansion of teams. So if the company grows, I can grow, and my people can grow too. Shop being a two-sided marketplace matched what I like about platform economics, so I felt that I could make an impact. I love the culture here because it focuses on the long-term vision we are building for a 100-year company and not just chasing short-term gains. The Get-Shit-Done mentality here is different from what I have experienced before. I also love the flexibility in working hours and the digital by default approach of work-life harmony. The most exciting part of working with Shop is that there is plenty of low-hanging fruit to pick as the Shop product is not overly optimized yet, compared to similar products I have worked on in the past. I also enjoy setting up the growth from almost scratch and the freedom to bring in experience on improving the way we work with data. I feel supported by leadership when they give me significant autonomy and enable me to build out the team without much constraint on resources. This helps a lot as we build the world's best growth org in ecommerce. When joining the team, we couldn't understand the top 5 product features introduced or optimized that contributed to the highest growth. Currently, we are integrating an adapted Get-Shit-Done approach with the team to get this answered in the future, so we can make sure we solve the biggest problems for our app users. In the meantime, a few colleagues are expanding their scope to support growth while we wait for new people to come in. Watching them take it on is very inspiring." Welcome to the team Paco Castro! "Tomorrow I start working at Shopify. I tend to go through changes quietly, so expressing the thrill of joining this admired company and the awesome team is not easy. Then my eldest child came with his English homework to make it simple."
“I work in incident communications as a senior support specialist, this means I help solve problems for a living and sometimes I fight fires.😆 I have a background in corporate communications. Before Shopify, I had the opportunity to work at several companies and organizations, including working in the Canadian healthcare sector at the onset of the covid-19 pandemic. I was actively searching for a career change and thinking of pivoting into the tech industry when I found a role at Shopify that aligned with my passion for business and my experience in the communications field. I also appreciate that Shopify understood the assignment of remote work. 😁 I love that I get to do meaningful work here and collaborate with talented people as we work towards a common mission while also getting the opportunity to learn and grow. I am fairly new to Shopify so I am proud to have made it through the hiring process, completed my onboarding and now starting to make impactful contributions to the team. I am excited about exponential growth, continuing to make meaningful contributions with my incredible team, and having a positive impact on more merchants. My biggest inspiration comes from my parents and my ancestors. I really appreciate my parents for laying a foundation of pursuing a life of purpose with resilience, not being afraid to start over and building for the long term. I immigrated to Canada as a teenager and had a front-row seat to immigrant life. That experience is monumental to who I am today. In honour of black history month, I want to acknowledge the giants on whose shoulders we stand, those who have laid down their lives in the fight for justice and equality. And Although recent events prove that there is still much work to be done, I am grateful to the black community here for such a warm welcome. If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.-African proverb"
At Shopify, we recognize how important it is to spend time with loved ones. Having them around gives meaning to our mission in all kinds of ways. So while members of our families might not always know exactly what our individual roles entail, they can always be proud that we're working to make commerce better for everyone. 🚀 We hope you get to spend today with some of the people you call family. Happy Family Day! 🎉
“When I first started volunteering with Technovation in 2019, I was intrigued by the opportunity to align my desire to volunteer more with this chance to affect the root cause of why more women aren’t working in tech. Seeing that as a company Shopify is involved in creating this positive influence on women from a young age is very aligned with my passion. 2021 was my first year volunteering on a remote team, and our team made it to the semi-finals in Canada! They took a lot of our guidance and worked a lot on their own to develop a time management app, shaped by their experience of balancing high school and daily life. I think a reason why some people may shy away from volunteering is that they think, “oh I’m not a developer”. But as a mentor, you’re never telling them what to do. It’s really about asking questions and gently guiding them so they can learn and then apply it themselves. It’s so inspiring when they have that “aha!” moment and the pieces come together. It inspires me to think of what else I could learn professionally as well! It’s been a cool process to be part of, and a fulfilling volunteer opportunity to combine something I enjoy (mentoring) with something I am passionate about, which is seeing more women get into STEM. But also, I think it’s very aligned with anybody who wants to get better at mentoring or facilitating. It’s an opportunity to challenge yourself and be a constant learner, but also meet people that you wouldn’t necessarily cross paths with within your day-to-day role.”

As we head into Summit 2022 we're reflecting on how we made commerce better for everyone in 2021. 🚀 Our team made it easier for merchants to own their own brands, reach more buyers, and build strong customer relationships across the globe.🌎 Wondering how we did that? It's all right here.⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eE8tSczS
Every year our employees from around the world🌎 come together for Shopify Summit. Starting today, our two-day Summit is taking place through an interactive virtual viewing experience that allows us to watch and engage from the comfort of our homes. Summit is a chance for us to align on priorities for the year ahead, share insights, delve into where we need to be as a company, and present a high-level view on how we can get there. It’s also a chance for everyone here to think big and connect with others while getting excited for the year ahead. 🚀
“I lead the Merchant Success Team for the US East Region. At Shopify, our Merchant Success team creates partnerships with the biggest and most complicated merchants on the platform to help them accelerate their growth while maximizing the value they receive from Shopify and our ecosystem. I have a passion for people management, and Shopify has empowered me to create a people-first culture across my region. The number one thing I love most about my job is the people with whom I work daily, followed closely by the ever-changing and challenging problems we get to tackle. I am grateful for the culture of leadership I’ve experienced at Shopify, as they have pushed me to grow as a person, and as a leader. I am also grateful for the company’s willingness to enable employees to affect meaningful change. My mother is my biggest inspiration. Witnessing everything she has overcome to provide me with a better life drives me to be better each and every day. Professionally, I’ve been blessed to work with exceptional leaders like Vignette Berkeley, Ida Shapiro, Matt Ioppolo, Suet-Yin Chow, Dan Ross, and so many others. I pull daily inspiration from what I have learned from each of them along my journey. Since joining Shopify, I have created a culture where my frontline employees know they can engage me directly with feedback without fear of reprisal. I am very proud of this. As we continue to grow as a company, I look forward to building a best-in-class customer success organization and providing the Black leaders of tomorrow opportunities for growth and development that were given to me early in my career.”
